Career choice(why MECHANICAL ENGINEERING)

Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering that uses creative abilities and knowledge to design, analyse, manufacture and maintain mechanical system through the application of physics, material science and engineering principles.
Mechanical engineering is known as the structure of engineering because of its ability to understand, predict and calculate the stability, rigidity and the strength(plasticity, elasticity,  toughness, hardness) of materials used in construction of a structure.

Branches of Mechanical Engineering
This field of engineering consist of various branches due to it complex form. Some of the branches are

  • Vehicle engineering: This branch of engineering consist of automobile engineering,  aerospace engineering and marine engineering.

  • Manufacturing engineering: it focuses on the application of engineering procedures in manufacturing processes and production method to improve quality of the product. The procedures consists of robotics, computer network, machine tools and material handling equipments.

  • Thermal engineering: Uses the knowledge of fluid mechanics to carryout heat transfer, thermodynamic and energy conversion operations.

Why Mechanical Engineering
In an economy like Nigeria whose possible of securing a lucrative job after graduation is decreasing yearly, studying mechanical engineering in a standard institute is bold step toward financial freedom.

Its a fact that Engineering builds the society. The mechanical engineers are fondly called the jack of all trade who uses its technical and creative abilities to create and add value to the society.

Firstly,  observing your drive is a very important factor before engaging in mechanical engineering disciplines. Every being has different reasons and drive in engaging in any course, some are inspired or motivated by friends and love one, others either parentally pressurized or passionately inspired. Albert Einstein said" I have no special talents,  i am only passionately curious". Nothing is as important as passion. I could remember, even as a kid, I had so much passion in fixing things, handling tools and producing automobile someday.
Being passionate about your chosen career gives you the extraordinary strength, the drive to study hard and the love of the core courses of study.
Core courses like the technical and engineering drawing,  strength of materials,  properties of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, metallurgy,  static and dynamics,  calculus and advanced algebra are well understood when you are passionate about them.
More also, Its Paramount that you obtain a Bachelor degree in the university or an higher diploma certificate from the polytechnic to broader your knowledge and to enable quick promotion in the field.
However, Mechanical engineering is not for all,  its for the passionate and those who truly wants to make a difference in the world.

Economic importance
  • Innovating new technologies
  • Eliminating excessive usage of resource thereby enhancing efficiency
  • Teaching and research oriented fields
  • Create jobs
  • Improved infrastructure
Remember as an engineer you design the future through innovative ideas from God.
